Senator Grassley visits TS Bank as part of national campaign
September 8, 2017 | TS Bank
Senator Charles Grassley visited TS Bank located at 15 E. Main Street in Treynor, Iowa, on Friday, August 25, 2017, as part of a national American Bankers Association (ABA) “Take Your Lawmaker to Work” program.
The ABA invited members of Congress to experience a ‘day in the life’ of a bank employee across the nation. The campaign - an annual initiative - encourages bankers to host their elected policy makers within their office to allow them an opportunity to see how banks operate. They are also able to meet some of the two million American’s who work at our nation’s banks. In the case of Sen. Grassley’s visit, TS Bank employees discussed their perspective on tax and regulatory reform with him.
“When Senator Grassley can get out to visit bankers in their communities its grassroots at its best," said Robert Hartwig, Iowa Bankers Association.
The Senator was onsite in Treynor during the lunch hour for a visit that included media interviews, a tour and a Q&A session with bank employees.
Institutions participating in “Take Your Lawmaker to Work” offer insights and expertise that demonstrate how important banks are to their local economies and show lawmakers first-hand how the issues on their agenda in Washington affect the availability of products and services banks provide to help customers achieve their financial goals.
A number of visits are scheduled to take place while lawmakers are home through November.
“Due to my thirty-seven-year friendship with Sen. Grassley and my thirty-plus years of lobbying in DC I know how important and critical it is for the people we send to DC, that represent us, to continue to have 'deep roots' back home with those roots being 'fed' by the people they represent,” said Mick Guttau, chairman of the board. “Senator Grassley has never lost sight of the importance of that connection. That is why he is in every one of our 99 counties in Iowa every year. Through this is when he learns how what happens or might happen in DC impacts Iowans."
Others have termed his annual visits as doing "The Grassley", which Guttau says is a "strong indicator of who Senator Grassley is and what he means to Iowans", even those of us in Treynor.
The Q&A consisted of over twenty TS Banking Group employees, the Senator’s team along with local media representatives from KMTV, Omaha World Herald and The Daily Nonpareil. Topics covered included Grassley’s take on the pulse in Washington, banks vs. credit unions and tax reform.
Employees asked about the apparent “chaos” in Washington shown on the news.
Grassley pointed out that he can see how its appeared as chaos, because the media tends to make money on conflict, but what we don’t see is the cooperation that is going on. He spoke about how he has great faith in our country because we have been through a lot more controversy than what’s going on now in DC.
“The ingenuity of the American people is going to blossom and you’re going to get rewarded for the work of your labor or the work of your mind and we’re going to continue to advance.” Said Senator Charles Grassley
