Russ Maguire announces retirement after 39-year banking career, celebration planned

January 28, 2025

Treynor, IA, January 21, 2025 - After a successful 39-year career in community banking, Russ Maguire, of TS Bank in Treynor, Iowa, will retire on February 28, 2025.

A Treynor native, Russ graduated from Treynor High School before earning a Bachelor of Science degree in business and economics from Tarkio College, where he also played college basketball. He continued his basketball journey overseas, playing professionally in Europe for one year.

Russ’s nearly four-decade journey with TS Bank began after spending 30 months as a branch manager at a bank in Underwood. He joined TS Bank as a lending officer, drawn by the exemplary culture fostered by the Guttau family: Mick, Judy, and Josh. Over the decades, Russ has remained a steadfast part of the TS Bank family, consistently inspired by the people and the professional environment.

During his tenure, Russ witnessed and adapted to significant changes in the banking industry, from the introduction of computers and digital processes to the advent of remote financial services. Through evolving technology, Russ found consistent satisfaction in assisting clients with their financial needs, from loan applications to personal consultations.

Russ’s dedication to TS Bank is mirrored by his commitment to the Treynor community. He served as fire chief of the Treynor Fire Department for nearly 30 years and has been an active volunteer since 1987. Under his leadership, the department launched numerous educational and safety initiatives, including fire truck rides for students, smoke detector distribution and mock accident scenarios for high schoolers.

Reflecting on his time as fire chief, Russ shared, “Volunteering with the Treynor Fire Department has offered the satisfaction of knowing you are making a difference and providing critical assistance to those in emergency situations. This ‘pay it forward’ mentality reflects the unpredictable nature of emergencies and the fulfillment that comes from helping others in their time of need.”

Russ also emphasized the importance of community involvement, stating, “Volunteers are one of the most important resources for community organizations to provide betterment for the community they live in, as well as themselves. I’m so grateful TS Bank has always encouraged employees to volunteer and give back their time and talent.”

In addition to his professional achievements, Russ is an active member of Living Hope Community Church and volunteers with the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation and other organizations. He and his wife Julie reside in rural Treynor and are proud parents of two adult daughters and grandparents to five grandchildren.

“As I reflect on my 39 years at TS Bank, I am filled with a lot of emotions, ranging from heartfelt gratitude to great memories of my time with both clients and employees. From the very first day, I could see I was stepping into a place where commitment, innovation and camaraderie were not just words, but values deeply engraved within TS Bank,” reflects Russ. “It has been an honor and a privilege to work alongside each of you and to assist so many clients who have trusted me with their financial needs. Some many people have been an integral part of my journey. As I turn the page to this new chapter, I do so with a heart full of gratitude and a spirit eager for the adventures ahead.”
