Earlier this fall, the Council Bluffs community welcomed Buck Snort - a “fast, casual” restaurant - to the downtown neighborhood located at 25 Scott Street.

Dwayne and Julie Pleas own this third location for the Buck Snort chain. The other chains are located in Neola and Oakland, Iowa under the ownership of Bud and Sarah Johansen.

TS Bank reached out to owner Dwayne Pleas to get the insight to what Buck Snort offers costumers and why he and his wife decided to take on Council Bluffs.

Tell us about yourself.
We are a local Council Bluffs family. I came from restaurant management and worked for Sysco food service for six years before we bought Buck Snort. My wife Julie is a medical biller and coder. She has worked for Methodist Hospital for about seven years.

What made you start a business in the Council Bluffs Community?
We love Council Bluffs and we love to support locally owned businesses. We felt Buck Snort would be a good fit for Council Bluffs.

What do you like most about the Council Bluffs community?
I always say that Council Bluffs is a good-sized city but feels more like a small town. We know a lot of great people here.

Hours of Operation?
Mon. – Thurs., Sun.: 11 a.m. to 9 p.m.
Fri., Sat.: 11 a.m. to 11 p.m.

How many employees do you have?
We currently have 15 employees.

What services do you offer?
We have daily specials, carry out and catering services.

What do you offer that other businesses similar to you can’t?
We get our food out fast, and are also a casual restaurant; this restaurant structure seems to be the growing trend.

Specials?
We have daily specials, and also create a burger of the month based on ideas submitted by our customers from the previous month. We also host craft nights.

Any more plans for the future? Where do you want your business to be in five years?
We hope to open at least 2 more locations!
