TS Bank donates $10,000 to MICAH House for child development center

March 31, 2025

Council Bluffs, Iowa, March 31, 2025 - TS Bank is honored to announce a donation of $10,000 as part of a multi-year capital campaign to support MICAH House for the Florence M. Lakin Child Development Center. This center aims to provide safe, affordable and care-centric childcare, which will be a transformative resource for families in the local community.

The Florence M. Lakin Child Development Center addresses gaps in children's developmental delays while offering parents the opportunity to work towards financial stability, wellness and interdependence. In Pottawattamie County, there is only one available daycare slot for every 7-10 children, highlighting the critical need for this program.

The new 12,000-square-foot center which opened in July 2024 on the east side of the current MICAH House property serves up to 70 children, ages six weeks to six years, in a trauma-sensitive and service-rich environment. Two-thirds of the center's spaces are reserved for MICAH House families, with the remaining spaces open to families in the surrounding community. Enrollment information can be found at lakinchildcare.org.

The center features six classrooms, a sensory room, indoor gymnasium, outdoor play area as well as a garden. All meals served at the center also meet the requirements for the Child and Adult Care Food Program (CACFP).

"Thanks to the generous support of TS Bank, we have created a safe, nurturing environment where children can thrive. This investment will not only make a difference today, but its impact will be felt for years to come," said Ashley Flater, MICAH House Executive Director.

Homelessness is a complex issue with many contributing factors. The on-site childcare facility and trauma-informed program, complete with tailored services and therapies for each child, serve as a model to support parents in creating a sustainable future for their families. Additionally, families and single women who enter MICAH House are provided an array of services including nutritious meals, counseling resources and an on-site health clinic.

"We are honored to support Micah House in its mission and the launch of the new Child Development Center, which is providing families with essential childcare services. This initiative empowers parents to take meaningful steps toward a brighter future for themselves and the next generation," said Austin Diehm, TS Banking Group SVP of Consumer Banking.

To continue supporting this incredible cause, community members are encouraged to join the 28th Annual Champagne & Diamonds event on Saturday, May 3, 2025. This year's event features a fun new theme: Roaring 20's! Enjoy a cocktail hour, dinner, silent and live auctions as well as the highly anticipated diamond raffle.
