September 9, 2024

We’re thrilled to announce Kyle Osborne as the new Assistant Vice President of Business and Consumer Community Banking. With a passion for empowering individuals and businesses through financial education, Kyle brings a wealth of experience and a deep commitment to community banking. Get to know Kyle and learn how he’s making a difference in the financial well-being of our community.

Q: Tell us more about your new role and responsibilities.

As the AVP of Business and Consumer Community Banking, I have the exciting privilege of listening to the financial needs and aspirations of individuals, couples, businesses and nonprofits. My role is to find solutions that not only meet but exceed their expectations. Whether it’s providing home, auto, business credit or savings strategies, I focus on delivering simple financial solutions that bring the most value to our clients.

Q: How has your experience prepared you for this new role?

I’ve always loved guiding people through the learning process. People want to feel empowered. My goal is to ensure that every interaction leaves them encouraged, better equipped and confident in taking control of their finances. I believe everyone deserves to be seen, understood and supported in their financial endeavors.

Q: What attracted you to the banking industry, and what do you enjoy most about it?

Over the years, I’ve encountered challenging financial situations and have been part of initiatives that changed lives for generations. The most rewarding aspect of my 13 years in this industry has been the people. Given the right support, most individuals will succeed. It’s been an honor to help thousands of people move toward financial health through education and behavior change.

Q: What key lessons have you learned throughout your career that influence your approach to banking?

One of the most important lessons I’ve learned is that people don’t want to be sold to—they want to be seen and heard. My approach is to listen carefully, ask the right questions, and fully understand a person’s financial situation before offering solutions. When clients come back and tell me that my advice worked, it’s a huge confidence booster for them and incredibly rewarding for me.

Q: What initiatives or programs have you implemented to support community banking or financial wellness in the area?

It’s been a joy to serve Southwest Iowa in the financial wellness space for over 12 years. Three programs I’m particularly proud of are our school banking programs, financial coaching and community classes. It’s been amazing to see thousands of children start saving through our school banks and adults getting the education they need to make sound financial decisions.

Q: How do you see your role contributing to the vitality of the community?

As a banker, I get to channel my passion for teaching people about money into practical savings, lending and business consulting. I love discussing how banking can help individuals, families and businesses create a more stable financial future, not just for themselves but for generations to come.

Q: Can you share a success story where your efforts made a significant impact on a local business or individual?

One story that stands out involves a 35-year-old woman who was living in a shelter with no financial education. After attending one of my classes, she set personal and financial goals and began working towards them. A year later, she approached me at a local restaurant and told me she had secured a job, managed her money and bought her first car with cash. She’s now repairing her credit to buy her first home. I’m incredibly proud of her journey!

Q: What common challenges do small businesses face, and how do you help address them?

One challenge I see is that many businesses run on autopilot, assuming they’re getting the best banking products for their needs. I work to build ongoing relationships with my clients, ensuring they’re regularly updated on the best options available. My goal is to help businesses grow and thrive by providing tailored banking solutions that meet their unique needs.

Q: How do you tailor banking services to meet the unique needs of small business owners?

Understanding how a business makes money is key to providing the right products and services. I strive to understand each business as deeply as the owner does, so I can offer solutions that genuinely complement their operations. I love helping businesses move from early stages to thriving ones by offering integrated banking solutions, cash management tools, and more.

Q: What do you enjoy doing outside of work?

I enjoy golfing, playing games with my wife and children and having meaningful conversations about faith.

Q: Can you share something about yourself that might surprise people?

I had a paper route from 6th grade to 12th grade.

Q: What books or resources have inspired you recently, and why?

I’m currently reading Unoffendable by Brant Hansen. It’s a great reminder that I don’t have to get offended by circumstances or people. Instead, I can choose to respond with love and understanding.

Q: What are you most proud of in your life or career so far?

I’m incredibly proud to have worked with hundreds of hard-working individuals in Southwest Iowa. They’ve trusted me with their finances and their stories, and it’s been an honor to support them in their journey towards financial health.

Q: Anything else you’d like to share?

There’s no shame in asking for help with your finances; it just makes you human. No one needs to suffer alone. My advice is to seek help early and be honest with yourself about your needs.
